Adding custom fields to your checkout form

Need to add extra fields to your checkout form? For example:

  • Display a textbox for entering special instructions or comments
  • Create a drop-down menu, letting customers indicate how they found your website (advertisement, word of mouth, etc.)
  • Add a checkbox so customers can agree to your terms or policy

It's simple! AmeriCart lets you create custom fields and collect additional information from shoppers. To access the custom field editor, follow these steps:

  1. Log into your control panel: https://www.americart.com/login.php
  2. Navigate to "Customization > Custom Fields"

Click the plus sign to create a new field. You'll be given the following options:

  • Label: Descriptive text that's displayed next to your field.
  • Field Location: Controls where each field is displayed.
    • Default Location: A new section will appear on your checkout form, specifically for custom fields. This section will be labeled "Other Order Information".
    • Shipping Information: The field will appear in the "Shipping Information" section
    • Billing Information: The field will appear in the "Billing Information" section
  • Sort: Change the layout of the custom fields in terms of placement relative to the other custom fields.
    • In terms of sort order, lower numbers come first. For example, if you have 5 fields with the sort orders set to 0, 20, 8, 1, 15 these fields will display (from top to bottom) 0, 1, 8, 15, 20.
    • This field is optional and if not set, the fields will display in default order.
  • Field Type: Chooses the display type of the field.

  • Is Required: If enabled, shoppers must fill in this field before finalizing their order. If disabled, they can leave the field blank.

After entering this information, click "Save" to finalize your changes.
