What is breakout shipping?
Breakout Shipping allows the customer to select multiple shipping rates when an order ships from two or more warehouses. The items group by Shipping Classification Code, and a different shipping option is chosen for each. A classification code must be entered when using this option. When used with the Rate Adjustments, a different set of shipping options can show for different products.
How do I set it up?
Via the product editor open a product for editing. Then click the ‘Shipping’ tab.
Here enable the Break out shipping option, and enter the Classification Code. This is a code that you will create. All products that share the same Classification code will have the same shipping options.
Using the example above:
For the items you need to have ship Ground, check the Break out shipping option. Here, set them all to have the same classification code.
For the items you need to have shipped over night, check the Break out shipping option. Set them all to have the same classification code, which will be a different code.
Once the settings are in place, check either the ‘Additional’ or ‘Flat Rate’ option.
In our example we use ‘Additional’. This will turn off all other shipping methods except for the one we want this item use. Once you have selected Additional, hit Save in the top, right corner.
After saving, you will see a list of shipping provider types. Next, mark available or unavailable for each shipping method on the page, along with additional rates and Save.
Now, when the customer reaches the checkout page, they will only have the specific shipping options assigned to this product available for selection. Any items that do not have breakout shipping assigned will have the full list of shipping methods available for selection.
