Creating Coupon Codes for Your Site
A coupon is a certificate given to a customer that is redeemable for a gift or discount. By giving out coupons, you allow the coupon holder to take advantage of a special offer. Most online coupons send through email campaigns and are redeemable during checkout. Spark Pay online stores allow you to set up a wide variety of coupons and other such discounts. Before activating coupons, you should read our topic on how Spark Pay online stores applies discount methods.
Step 1: The first step is to enable the Accept Coupons setting at the global level for the store. Find this under Settings > Order > General.
Once you save this change, the coupon code box will appear on the cart page as seen below.
Step 2: Setup the Discount Method.
Go to Marketing > Discounts.
From here you can create methods for Dollar Off or Percent Off coupons.
To get started, let's click on the New button (top right corner) and create a new discount method. Options will appear on the next page.
Creating a Discount Method
- Name your method as you want it to appear in the shopper's cart.
- Check Method is Active if you want it currently applied.
- Select either dollars or percent from the middle of the Discount row. Enter the amount of the discount. Next, specify where that amount will come off. The options are Total, Matched Items, Unmatched Items, Subtotal Minus First Item or Shipping.
- Click Save Method.
Step 3: Next, setup the Coupon Code Rules

Scroll to the Rules area on the Discount Method scree (created in step 2 above) and click on 'New Rule'
- On this screen Select 'coupon code' as the Rule Type; Select an operator and the Target. The Target is the actual coupon code you want visitors to enter on the cart page when checking out.
- Click Save.
You can add multiple rules by repeating step 3 and selecting different rule types. Example, $10 off with a coupon code and if order value is over $50. If you are using multiple rules and want them all to be true before the discount applies, enable Method is Strict on the Discount Method screen. When a user enters the coupon code, the discount will display on the shopping cart page if all rules are met. An example snapshot is below:
