Store owners can now add Product Comparison to their stores with all versions of 2015.2+
This feature adds a new Product Comparison page as well as a new widget called the Compare Bucket
The default items to compare are:
- Image
- Item Name
- Item Number
- Rating
- Description
- Manufacturer
- Availability
- Retail Price
- Price
- All attributes from products being compared
- Variants (kind of, they aren’t really “compared”, just visible above the add to cart buttons.)
- And up to 5 custom items in addition to these (any product entity merge codes can be added to a compare layout)
To use this new feature, you will need to add a couple things into your theme.
- First, you will want to go to Settings > Catalog > General, and enable the feature. You can also set how many items are able to be compared at one time.
- Next, you will want to add in a Product Comparison widget. Ideally this will be put into the left column, however this can also be added to the category page.
- After adding in the widget, you will then want to add the merge code. You will want to place this somewhere inside the product repeater <ac:layoutarea id="ProductList"> tags which can be found by going to Themes > Edit > Pages > Category > HTML Editor. It is recommended you place after the Product Comparison merge code. The Compare Link option appears depending on where you put the merge code in the product repeater.
- There is a theme level Product Compare page, that can be used for making any changes to the product comparison page.
And thats all there is to using the new new Product Comparison feature! Your customers should be easily able to go in, and compare the products to decide on what they would like to purchase.
